Stephanie and Jay were absolutely amazing hosts. From the fresh, homemade pastries in our room every afternoon, to the incredible breakfasts (we are still raving about Stephanie's breakfast pizza), to the quaint and tastefully decorated rooms, we absolutely LOVED our stay at Changing Tides B&B. Rockport was beautiful and such a perfect place to visit in the Fall- I wish we could have stayed for much longer. I highly recommend Changing Tides to anyone looking to visit this area, as Stephanie and Jay will make you feel like family and will make you never want to leave!

There are B&Bs that are nice and then there are B&Bs which offer a Bed and a Breakfast that are hard to describe in words, as the first is enjoyed in sound sleep, making it impossibel to speak and write, and the second enjoyed in tasting a daily newly designed and freshly prepared breakfast, making it impossible to speak, in everything well taken care of by our hosts' Jay's and Stephanie's kind hospitality. Stephanie is Rockport's Breakfast Wizard: she asks that you come down at 8:30 in the morning. You can stay in bed a bit longer, of course, but you will then miss a sublime breakfast (don't worry, it will be waiting for you). But Changing Tides B&B offers the mouthwatering experience of enjoying a fresh breakfast right out of the oven or from the stove - taste and ingest it, and you will forget everything, and perhaps even everyone, around you as you are enveloped in culinary morning delight your taste buds will never forget. You can go back to bed after breakfast if you want: by the time you are done breakfasting, your bed and room and bathroom are clean and ready. Otherwise, there is plenty to explore in and around Rockport, and Jay and Stephanie are happy to provide good tips and suggestions for day trips, interesting sites, and fine places to have dinner (you can have home made cookies before you venture out for dinner - they are waiting for you on your room). And when the day comes to its and with a cup of tea or other beverage and good company on the deck, you climb the stairs, go into your bedroom and you into your comfortable bed for a night of sound sleep - to be awakened by the most wonderful and delicious scents coming from the kitchen in the morning... This is a Bed and Breakfast where both bed and breakfast are simply sublime.

Changing Tides is a lovely place to stay, clean, cosy and comfortable with lots of space to relax and enjoy the quiet town of Rockport. Stephanie and Jay were incredibly helpful with local advice for eating out and scenic places to visit and even gave us freshly baked cookies on arrival. Our room, the Captain's Quarters, was quiet, clean and warm, with a very comfy bed. Sitting outside on swings or on the porch was great, and breakfast was amazing. A perfect stay.

“We loved everything about our stay in Rockport. Stephanie and Jay are the perfect hostess and host. Stephanie has great attention to detail. Her breakfasts are out of this world!  “We absolutely loved Stephanie and Jay’s home. It was clean, beautifully decorated, centrally located, and both of them were the best hosts. We highly recommend Changing Tides to anyone looking to stay in Rockport and to anyone who loves incredible breakfasts and great company!”

Stephanie and Jay were great hosts offering plenty of advice on where to visit and eat in Rockport. Their house is in a prime position to see the sights of this beautiful town. Our room was very comfortable and Stephanie went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed. Stephanie's breakfast had to be seen (and eaten) to be believed - excellent!

My wife and I decided to return to Rockport for our fortieth anniversary. She researched and found Changing Tides with one room left. Stephanie and Jay provided a welcoming, comfortable and beautifully appointed home. My wife is a vegetarian and Stephanie was on the mark for taking care of her needs with delicious breakfasts. When we returned in the afternoon homemade cookies were waiting for us. Jay offered advice on restaurants and sites to see. This was an excellent choice and we look forward to returning.

Staying with Stephanie was like going to visit your sister for the weekend, except her housecleaning is better and she's a professional chef. Booking includes breakfast this morning: fresh rhubarb juice, OJ, organic vanilla yogurt, homemade granola, fresh cantaloupe, breakfast panini: egg, fresh spinach, caramelized onion, bacon, cheese on panini bread with warm, homemade raised cinnamon pecan buns. Did I mention the fresh homemade peanut butter cookies welcoming us in our room? Over the top. Stephanie doesn't just check off all the boxes, she does it with consideration, with care, and attention to detail. The setting and our room was spotless, comfortable and welcoming. Highly recommend.

We took a last-minute trip to Rockport, needing to get away and smell the ocean air. The Changing Tides Bed and Breakfast was the perfect place to live out our fantasy. It's a sweet old home within easy walking distance of the village of Rockport. And it's an even closer walk to the beach. Stephanie, the hostess, couldn't have been nicer. She's a terrific cook, who provided a delicious breakfast. And in the afternoon, she left a plate of fresh-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookies in our room. The room was nicely furnished and very clean. If we return to Rockport, we hope to find a room (there are only 3) at the Changing Tides.

“We had a great time staying at Stephanie's B&B and couldn't recommend it enough. The house and common grounds are very spacious and comfortable. Stephanie and her husband were very warm, friendly and helpful in every way. We stayed at the king suite which is gorgeously decorated with a giant super comfy bed. The brand new shower works very well and I wish I can purchase some towels from her. As a tea lover I thoroughly enjoyed their tea station, populated with one of a kind cups and a great assortment of loose teas. Did I mention the breakfast? I woofed down two her banana chocolate pancakes despite of my low-carb diet, that's how good they were. The location is really good too with plenty of parking, so you can walk 'downtown' in five or so minutes without worrying about parking meters and getting ticketed. After a day of visiting the beaches, Halibut state park and the main drag, we hung out at the house for some rest before heading out again for dinner at Roy Moore's fish shack restaurant. We recommend their seafood store too, which has great chowder and lobster rolls to go! Stephanie and her husband work hard at providing their guests with a superior experience and we lucked out - really appreciate it.”

“The B&B is just lovely! Stephanie and Jay are wonderful hosts, and the location is excellent. Their home is comfortable and welcoming. The breakfast was simply delicious! Everything is homemade from scratch. The room/bathroom was so pretty, and very, very clean! I highly recommend it! Judy N.”

This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast. We did not know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. The hosts were kind and accommodating in every possible way. The house was cozy and inviting. Also, it was immaculate. Our room was very large and had a lot of natural light. The house itself is an ideal walking distance from town. My favorite part of the trip was Stephanie's attention to detail. I have numerous food allergies and instead of acting like it was a burden (I offered to bring my own breakfast because I did not want to be a burden) she welcomed my allergies with open arms and created breakfasts that were beyond amazing.

Stephanie and Jay made their home feel like our home. Changing Tides is a very welcoming, warm, friendly place and impeccably maintained. Their attention to detail within the individual rooms, and throughout the property, help create a great atmosphere to simply unwind and enjoy the time there. Stephanie is a great cook and her homemade breakfasts are incredible as are her afternoon cookies! You also may want to purchase some of her jams and sauces that she cans herself. Changing Tides is a great and convenient location to anything you may want to do while in Rockport. We went to Rockport to take in a concert at the Shalin Liu Performance Center and to simply roam around the shops. But we feel we came away with a much better experience after having the opportunity to also share many laughs and conversation with both Jay and Stephanie, either in the sitting area / kitchen or around the fire pit at night. It had been over 30 years since we had been last been to Rockport...and we are only an hour away. Because of Changing Tides, we will be returning much sooner. Karen & Don Berthiaume

Changing Tides B&B is roomy, clean, and delightful. Our room (the Mermaid Suite) was spacious and had lots of natural light, as well as excellent light-blocking screens. The shower has super-comfortable river stone underfoot... loved it! ...and great water pressure. The bed has technology which allows for adjusted firmness on each side; we slept VERY well, and the bedding is fresh and inviting. Since the B&B has only a few guest rooms, we were able to use the screened in porch, as well as the family room and Netflix in the evenings. Keurig coffee maker, kettle, and a plethora of teas and coffees are available at all times. We very much enjoyed the quiet. Stephanie and Jay are lovely. They were very much available, and also were taking cues from how sociable the guests seemed to want to be. We had some enjoyable conversations. My husband and I agreed that they are ideal B&B hosts. (It should be noted that my husband generally prefers the anonymity of hotels... chuckle.) Stephanie greeted us at the arranged time, showed us around, and provided homemade, warm cookies! She also made amazing breakfasts with fresh ingredients each morning- a different menu each day. We had organic yogurt with homemade granola , as well as 'to die for' pumpkin pancakes with pecan sauce, and maple glazed bacon. Another morning we had morning sandwiches of bagel and eggs and other deliciousness (it's a couple of weeks ago & I have middle aged brain!). I'm pretty sure there was avocado and fresh tomato and something else. In any case, it was fabulous. The house is a short walking distance to Bearskin Neck in Rockport.

We had a wonderful experience at Changing Tides. She prepared a variety delicious homemade gourmet breakfasts and fresh baked cookies at tea time. One breakfast included homemade jams with her home baked croissants, her own granola and yogurt and homegrown tomato and basil in her eggs. The location provided walking access to all the shops and restaurants in Rockport and was a short a walk to a headland that provided spectacular views of the ocean and the town and a place to relax far above it all. Parking was available and the room was clean, simply decorated with a nautical theme, and comfortable with adequate seating, towels, blankets, lighting, and windows. We were very pleased with our stay with Stephanie and our visit to Rockport.

This was my first time ever staying at a B&B so I wasn't sure what to expect. That said, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Changing Tides B&B was someone's private home, huge and beautiful with a number of comfortable sitting areas for reading, watching television or visiting with other residents as well as the Hosts, Stephanie and Jay. Breakfast is at 8:30 each morning and is geared towards preferences you indicate before your stay; this means if you are vegan or vegetarian, just say the word and you will have that type of cuisine. We enjoyed corn fritters, breakfast burritos and ham & Swiss crepes, just to name a few yummy dishes. Our room was the Captain's Quarters which faces the street. We loved our firm queen sized bed, the two skylights and a roomy walk-in closet and the bathroom was just outside with everything we would need to stay refreshed and clean. Downstairs, there was a Keurig coffee and tea maker on hand as well as home-made cookies each afternoon to make sure we didn't stay too skinny :-) but, when on vacation, I tend to let that obsession go by the wayside! You will not be disappointed if you like an immaculate home with comfortable furnishings, breakfasts that are nothing like fast food, and being only a 5 minute walk from the shops and restaurants of downtown Rockport. We especially liked Brackett's for its great chowder and yummy spinach salad with strawberries and pecans, a lighter meal that also featured an awesome ocean view. You can't go wrong with Changing Tides; just be prepared to rest, relax, EAT and enjoy the company of the friendly hosts and your fellow travelers!

Stephanie & Jay were welcoming hosts
Changing Tides B&B is a wonderful old house in a residential area yet within walking distance of Rockport town & Bearskin Neck. Beachcomber Suite was clean & comfortable. Water, wine glasses & bottle opener were in our room on arrival. Coffee & tea available anytime. Warm cookies awaited us in the afternoon. Stephanie & Jay were welcoming hosts. This was our first visit to Cape Ann, and they told us about the area as well as map out places of interest. We were unable to enjoy the backyard sitting area due to the rainy weather. But loved the gourmet breakfast on the screened side porch. We truly appreciated their hospitality!

Room was excellent, breakfasts were out of this world. Stephanie could be a gourmet cook and Jay is the laid back husband that stays out of the way, but is very easy to talk to when he is not at work. Rockport is a great town to visit and Changing Tides is the place to stay when in the area. We parked the car moved in and walked everywhere. The area restaurants were very good, but if Stephanie cooked lunch and dinner for guests, I probably would have eaten every meal at her B & B. She grows her own vegetables and incorporates them into the breakfasts whether in an omelet or baked goods. You feel at home while away from home.

I enjoyed the fresh baked peanut butter cookies in the afternoon with coffee. Breakfast was one of the best I've had ~ gourmet crepes with strawberry rhubarb topping and fresh whipped cream ~ home-made and delicious! The location was fabulous. A close walk to town with cute shoppes, restaurants and beaches. Enjoyed the evening relaxing by the fire under the stars in the yard while the fresh breeze of flowers and herbs from the gardens filled the air. I can't say enough about this quaint and cozy B&B. I came as a customer and left as a friend. I highly recommend Changing Tides to experience the 5 star experience I did.

We had a delightful stay at this charming B&B. The location is perfect, with easy parking that enables you to walk the 5 minutes into town. The rooms are welcoming and immaculate, with extremely comfortable beds, working A/C and fans, and bathrooms with plenty of fluffy towels and toiletries. Stephanie and Jay are friendly and generous hosts, there is tea and coffee available all day, and Stephanie leaves a freshly-baked treat in the room in the afternoon. The breakfasts are huge and delicious, with fresh fruit and homemade juice, a cooked entree, and a baked treat. It was so good and so large we didn't eat lunch! Breakfast is served on a sweet screened-in porch with a view of the quiet garden. Stephanie and Jay offered us suggestions for where to eat dinner, and where to walk for the best views, adding a series of driving tours when it started pouring rain. We didn't get to use the fire-pit and garden hammock chairs, but they would be terrific (on a dry evening). Overall, it was a top-rate B&B experience, and I would highly recommend Changing Tides to anyone visiting the lovely town of Rockport.

Stephanie and Jay are wonderfully warm, welcoming people. My girlfriend and I felt as though we were staying in the home of close friends instead of at an AirBnB. They provided excellent amenities, from beach towels, to beach chairs, and bikes and helmets, to board games for guests to use and enjoy. They even had a fire pit in their backyard which they welcomed us to enjoy with them one evening. Breakfast was absolutely amazing each morning, incorporating local produce, some even picked in their back yard. The house is gorgeous and airy, and beautifully decorated. The property is a lush little oasis with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the plants and flowers. The location is excellent, just minutes away from the center of town, with countless shops, restaurants and easy beach access. We felt right at home and didn't want to leave. We will definitely be coming back to stay with Stephanie and Jay soon and would recommend staying with them to absolutely anyone who wants to have an enjoyable, relaxing stay in Rockport.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Changing Tides. Stephanie is a meticulous, attentive host and an excellent cook. The room, house, patio and garden are beautifully maintained, attractive, and comfortable. Some above-and-beyond generosity we experienced were rides to the train station, afternoon baked treats, loaned bicycles, and even loaned outerwear as we were not prepared for a chilly spell. We also saw Stephanie respond graciously to a guest couple who were rude and difficult. Breakfasts were truly wonderful, made with care, creativity and home-grown ingredients. The location is a short, pleasant stroll from the beautiful headlands, beach, and town. I wish we could have stayed longer; still, it was a rejuvenating two-day getaway.

As a family of 3 (10 months old baby) we spent 4 lovely nights at Stephanie's inn. The room was cosy and clean, as the whole house. Stephanie took care of everything we needed, from preparing a delicious breakfast to giving nice tips for the area around. She and her husband made us feel very welcome and like at home. Especially the garden with the nice patio and fire pit is a great place to relax and have some chilled nights with the owners. All in Rockport is reachable in 5 minutes, the local beach, the nice little shops and restaurants, etc. We definitely left sadly and hopefully will get a chance to come back very soon.

Beautiful place with an amazing breakfast”
Reviewed May 2017

My friend and Mare stayed for one night at this wonderful bed&breakfast. I was exploring the neighborhood for an upcoming group trip and needed to familiarize myself with the Boston area. Mare found this place on Airbnb, and booked us in a charming room with two twin beds. The room was beautiful! Well-decorated, nice beds and mattresses (not old and saggy), and an adjacent bathroom. In the morning Stephanie welcomed us with a lovely breakfast (buttermilk pancakes with fresh raspberries and home made syrup!). She was also very accommodating when we arrived later than expected. She gave us also plenty of tips what to check out while being in the Rockport area. The best thing what will definitely bring me back is that she can make dietary accommodations for breakfast. My boyfriend has celiacs and it is so hard to find B&B which can accommodate this. We will be back!

Wonderful stay

Wonderful stay. The property is a few minutes walk from the touristy strip of shopping and beaches in Rockport which was great. The BNB is a beautiful property and the food was incredible. The room was spotless, airy but cozy. The shower was hot with great pressure. The midday cookies and evening tea/coffee by the fire pit were added perks. Stephanie can seriously cook. Would stay here again in a heart beat.

Stephanie's homemade gourmet breakfast was amazing. We had chorizo egg burritos, scones, brown sugar bacon, crepes, granola, yogurt. In the afternoon she bakes yummy cookies. Her home decor and artwork are beautiful and comfortable. Love the puffy rocking chair. Hope to return at a future date.

"Home away from home"

May 2017If your looking for a home away from home where you can share time with a wonderful innkeeper this is the place to stay. Stephanie is knowledgable, fun, and a great chef. Her inn is a few minutes walk to the beach area- perfect for reading and relaxing in the sun looking down on the harbor and out to the Atlantic Ocean. This beach is not accessible to swimming but a great meditation site. We were comfortable and loved our stay.

My husband and I spent one night at Changing Tides B&B and our only disappointment was that we only had one night! The location is perfect....we walked everywhere. Stephanie is a wonderful host and provided us with many suggestions on sightseeing and restaurants. We stayed in the Beachcomber room which was a great size and had a lovely en-suite. The whole home is decorated with a beach décor and very welcoming. My husband is still talking about the breakfast! Delicious!

“Perfect Everything!”

Where to start? First, the location is perfect. Everything an easy walk away. Secondly, the B & B is the home I wish I had. It's a large 1855 completely remodeled Colonial with a huge garden to die for. The rooms are darling, comfort and sunny bright. The large kitchen porch is the perfect place to enjoy your breakfast which was off the charts sensational. Speaking of food, Stephanie, the owner, loves to cook and it shows in her menu choices. Lastly, the owners are some of the nicest, most welcoming and generous people you will find. They are a wealth of knowledge about the area and its art. One of our favorite stays.

“Wonderful time,cute town, tasty food”

We recently stayed 4 nites, and just had a great time. The hosts are friendly, and the breakfasts tasty and varied day to day. And fresh cookies in the afternoon!! Easy walking distance to town, lots of places to visit, and walking trails along the coast to explore.
Highly recommend, we hope to return. 6 stars.

“Excellent B&B! Loved Our Stay!”

Enjoyed a wonderful time at Changing Tides B&B!

Stephanie is a natural host, anticipating our needs before we even needed to ask, and surprising us with sweet treats in the afternoon placed in our room for when we got back.

Her place was lovely, clean, and comfortable. A perfect distance from the heart of Bearskin Neck and a short walk to the beach.

“Lovely people, beautiful connection, lovely home in a beautiful and quaint location”

“Stephanie and her husband were wonderful hosts, I like Stephanie's house for its conviviality, was lovely to meet other guests, having breakfast together, and cooking marshmallows in front of the fire, seating on rocking chairs outside, chatting with one another and getting to know about the American people, their lives, their stories, their culture. The room was beautiful, comfy, with great attention to detail to make your stay very special. Genuine authentic hosts, eager to please and happy to share their local knowledge of their area. The location was amazing, close to the very quaint town centre of Rockport and with direct access to lovely scenic walks along the coast. Great place if you are a photographer. “Description of the Inn is true...but the hosts are beyond what has been reviewed! Excellent spot! A short walk to the headlands trail or into the quaint village of Rockport. Warm welcome, check in, tour and explanation by Stephanie. All spaces are clean, airy and fresh. Personal touches show the thoughtfulness of Stephanie...beverages, home baked cookies, etc. Wall artwork are reflections of the beautiful local coastline. Room was spacious, beds comfortable, sheets crispy and pillows fluffy! There are three guest rooms upstairs, two that share one bathroom. We were the only guests for the evening so there was no problem. Stephanie shared hopes of adding a second bathroom this next year. Hosts live up the street so common areas are free to use. Hosts are very eager to help in anyway. Breakfast included maple glazed bacon, yogurt, homemade granola, homemade blueberry pancakes with homemade blueberry syrup. Coffee was served in pottery mugs that Stephanie made as well. Her syrups, jams and jellies are for sale and delicious! Foodies will delight in related conversation and the swapping of recipes and cooking ideas! Delightful time spent!”

“Stephanie and Jay were great hosts. Stephanie is a wonderful cook; she left delicious home baked cakes every afternoon in our room for a mid pm snack and the fabulous breakfast was mostly organic & all home cooked. We sat beside a fire pit in the evening to chat at the end of the day and Jay introduced us to toasted marshmallow and 'Smores' (if you don't know what they are, you'll have to ask Jay!) The Mermaid Suite is clean, light and spacious with lots of storage space for clothing. “Stephanie, you and your husband made us feel like family - you welcomed us so warmly into your home! You truly have a gift for hospitality, and we were blessed to experience it in such a special get-away that we both really needed. A heartfelt thank-you to both of you! ”

This was our first experience with AirBnB, and we were VERY pleasantly surprised to have our expectations exceeded during our stay at Stephanie’s lovely place! The Mermaid room was spacious, very clean and thoughtfully decorated, and the comfortable king bed had a skylight above it where stars sparkled during the night and pink fluffy clouds floated by in the morning! Stephanie kindly asked about food allergies/preferences, and then outdid herself each morning with a delicious breakfast we looked forward to each day. In the afternoon, fresh-baked goodies would appear in our room. There were often smells of wonderful cooking wafting through the house! The location was perfect - a short walk to the downtown area and beach, with bicycles available that we used to explore further. Stephanie and her husband were always ready to help us navigate the area, and made some wonderful suggestions that made our time extra-special. In the end, we felt blessed to have made new friends in these thoughtful owners! Rockport was more beautiful than we realized, and our stay at Changing Tides made it a very restful, special get-away. I normally am ready to head home at the end of our vacation times, but I would have been happy to stay longer. We look forward to going back!

“Great weekend getaway!”

My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to stay in Gloucester and found Changing Tides on Airbnb. When we got there it was like stepping in to your friends house, right by the ocean. We had a wonderful time there, Stephanie and Jay were the most hospitable hosts we've ever had.

“Takes Cape Ann B&Bs to a very high tide!”

One of our favorite Airbnbs yet! We hesitate to offer this review for fear that Changing Tides will be eternally booked when we next wish to visit Rockport and this wonderful Airbnb.

Stephanie was a great communicator pre-arrival and offered flexibility given the uncertain time of our arrival. Everything was perfect on arrival, even the fresh cookies from the afternoon and bottled water. Stephanie's recommendations for dinners were right on. However, do NOT skip her homemade breakfasts as they are delectable, sourced locally, and better than any you will find in town -the best of all the Airbnbs at which we have stayed thus far. We tried to make reservations with her for dinner, but she said we'd have to come back in the fall for a Saturday night stay when dinner may be an option (my guess - well worth it).

Stephanie and Jay were very gracious and fun to speak with and learn of their journey. Being from the area, they also had all the tips for regional touring (e.g. Schoonerfest and restaurants in Gloucester) and local Rockport jaunts (e.g. Old Garden Beach, the Headlands, and particular artist galleries). The location of Changing Tides could not be more perfect for exploring all things Rockport, and Cape Ann for that matter.

You cannot go wrong with Changing Tides when in Rockport.

P.S. Even their friends from afar, such as the antique delivering Dave from Peru, Indiana, are a joy to get to know over a loquacious breakfast. We were going to call him a "cool cat" but we didn't want to scare anyone with feline objections away from this wonderful Airbnb. Enjoy!

“Absolutely Priceless Experience!”
Stephanie and Jay were phenomenal hosts! My wife and I went to Rockport for the first time, we checked in late and were welcomed promptly and shown our room that had a beautiful theme, decor and all amenities one needs when traveling. The bed was a sleep number that put our current mattress to shame. Suite had a private bathroom and scenic stand up shower with dual shower heads, great for couples. The breakfast was delicious both days, savory and sweet combinations and wholesome local ingredients make you really appreciate the difference between changing tides and anywhere else. Also, as Muslims who do not eat bacon, Stephanie cooked everything for us with turkey bacon on her own and was so understanding. The fire pit at night after a long day was tranquil and serene. Sitting with Stephanie and Jay and exchanging different stories, passion for food, travel and life pursuits were refreshing and made us feel right at home. Stephanie's garden is expansive and after realizing my love for tomatoes, they told us to have as many cherry tomatoes from the garden as we like, organic and fresh, dont even have to wash them. In retrospect, it was one of my best experiences traveling and I'm so happy I found a place I will certainly be going back to time and time again! Absolutely priceless!

“Expectations were exceeded! "

“Expectations were exceeded! I have stayed at many BnBs before, but none of them come close to our experience at Changing Tides. Stephanie and Jay were incredible hosts - Jay greeted us upon our arrival and helped with our bags which instantly put us at ease. Stephanie checked us in, went over the details of breakfast, and showed us our beautiful room (which is exactly as pictured). The bed was amazing - my fiancé and I slept like rocks both nights and the shared bathroom was NEVER an issue. The bathroom was very clean and even had shampoo/conditioner/body wash which is never provided at other BnBs and hotels. It was as if we were in our own home and that is what made our stay so wonderful. The location was perfect - 5 minutes walk to everything you could want in Rockport. Stephanie's breakfasts... Where do I even begin?! I told her she needs her own show - she is AMAZING! Everything she cooked was from fresh ingredients and made with so much love. I will be dreaming of her homemade sausages until the next time I get to eat them :) Oh, and the little afternoon treats she would leave us - YUM! Stephanie and Jay - thank you for the home away from home experience. We loved every minute of our stay, and look forward to being back sooner than later!”

“Birthday Get-A-Way”

My wife and I stayed at the Changing Tide Bed & Breakfast for her birthday weekend in Rockport. Stephanie and Jay run quite the place. The private room "Captain's Quarters" was spacious and comfortable, filled with everything we needed from ironing boards to beach towels and everything else imaginable. The B&B is located a few blocks from the beach with all of it's North Shore New England charm and even closer to the hopping village downtown packed with boutique shops and restaurants. Stephanie knows everything going on in town and gives great suggestions on what to check out. But the best thing about the Changing Tides... Breakfast! Farm to table, thoughtfully planned and prepared to perfection. Each of our days started with the scent of breakfast tiptoeing up the stairs. Tasty and filling breakfast that left us fulfilled without feeling full all the way to lunch. We will definitely be back... soon! Thanks Again for a great weekend, we needed it.

“What an adorable place!”

We were very lucky to end up staying at Changing Tides! The location is right in downtown, the home is so cute, and Stephanie and Jay were so nice and accommodating. The room was exactly what the pictures showed, the place was super clean, no dust bunnies to be found!
We were only there for one night and will be back!

Our stay at Changing Tides was unbelievable!! The house was immaculate and was in a location where we could walk to the Bearskin Neck area. Our host Stephanie recommended great places to go and things to do. The breakfast she provided was 5 star! Homemade everything from bread and jam to rhubarb juice and Denver Omelette. We would love to stay there again as our experience was beyond expectation!!

“We want to give Changing Tides the highest possible review"

“We want to give Changing Tides the highest possible review. Stephanie and Jay were incredible, and thought of every single detail. From the moment we arrived, we really felt like we were treated like family. Jay helped us with our bags, gave us refreshments, and lead us to our beautiful and spacious room (where there were freshly baked treats waiting for us). That night, we relaxed by the fire pit, learning more about Rockport (and our fellow guests). The next morning, breakfast was incredible, with delicious savory and sweet dishes. We went out to explore Rockport, and this Bed and Breakfast is really ideally located for this. We are just blocks away from the main street (where we spent much of our time), but also just a few blocks away from the beautiful and relatively secluded Old Garden Beach. Overall, I would highly recommend this place!”

Expectations were exceeded!

Expectations were exceeded! I will be dreaming of her homemade sausages until the next tet to eat them :) Oh, and the little afternoon treats she would leave us - YUM! Stephanie and Jay - thank you for the home away from home experience. We loved every minute of our stay, and look forward to being back sooner than later!”

 “This listing is amazing!"

“This listing is amazing! You are within a 2 minute walk of Rockport downtown area, 5 minute walk to front beach and 5 minute walk to another smaller beach. The house was beautiful, clean, and Stephanie provided us with everything we needed and more. Stephanie and her husband were around if we needed anything or had questions, otherwise we just came and went. The two rooms she rents are upstairs, and were private and quiet. As Stephanie describes, the twin beds can be converted to a single bed, very comfortable. She also provides breakfast, and it is amazing!! Possibly the highlight of our entire weekend in Rockport. We had crepes with peaches one morning and western breakfast sandwiches on home made rye bread the next morning. I cannot recommend this listing more, we will definitely be back!”

"Breakfast! Farm to table, thoughtfully planned and prepared to perfection"

“My wife and I stayed at the Changing Tide Bed & Breakfast for her birthday weekend in Rockport. We will definitely be back... soon! Thanks Again for a great weekend, we needed it.”

"Book time there without hesitation!! "

“Stephanie and Jay were fabulous hosts! Their home is in a quiet location, walking distance to the water, shops, and eateries. Their home is beautifully decorated with an eye for detail and with an artistic flair. We were surprised with an upgrade to a very large master suite with a king bed and private bathroom that had a shower with a hand-laid river rock floor. Lots of windows and a sky light made it feel light and airy- our room was on a side street with no traffic or noise. In fact, the entire house was peaceful despite its central location. Stephanie made a gourmet breakfast with homemade granola, fresh bacon, baked blueberry French toast, fresh fruits, and squeezed juices - fabulous! We sat with Jay and Stephanie the night before in their pergola as the fire burned and gabbed until late. Their suggestion to go see the Hammond Castle on a rainy day was the best suggestion and we loved it. The entire experience was relaxed, non-intrusive, and friendly. Book time there without hesitation!! ”

“Stephanie was extremely welcoming and kind. I had a bit of difficultly providing her with a specific eta but she dealt with it cordially which I really appreciated! She is an amazing cook and although I didn't wake up in time for her breakfasts her afternoon treats were delicious. I even bought a homemade jam from her which was absolutely amazing! The accommodations were also beautiful, clean and well kept, so I have no complaints at all about the captains quarters! I would definitely stay again and recommend any of my friends and family to stay with her. ”

“Stephanie and Jay run one of the best BnBs we've ever experienced. Beds were comfortable, great large towels which I like but the breakfasts - yes scrumptious every-thing-home-made gourmet breakfasts, were the best I've ever had anywhere! Even home made chocolate brioches and juices from rubarb to fresh pressed Concord grape juice from her own grape arbor... and home made raspberry syrup from her raspberry patch for her buttermilk pancakes . They are extraordinary hosts and everything is done to perfection!”

“Our hosts noticed that we were initially unsure where to park and came out to greet us and direct us to a spot. Thier home is beautiful and a very short walk to both town and a great semi-private neighborhood beach. They were so kind and Stephanie is an AMAZING cook! She greeted us with freshly baked vegan peanut butter cookies, and the vegan raspberry waffles (topped with homemade raspberry syrup-- all made from the raspberry bushes in the yard) were so good my partner (a meat-eater) and I both had dreams about them for days afterwards. I am allergic to dairy products and don't eat meat, so I often eat vegan cuisine, but I also have somewhat discerning tastes, so I am often (sadly) disappointed by others' vegan dishes, which often seem to sacrifice flavor and texture resulting in sad imitations of their "regular cuisine" counterparts. This was NOT the case in Stephanie's cooking-- honestly, I think I will continue to dream about these waffles for years to come. Stephanie's kitchen is also a certified commercial kitchen and she has undergone the (somewhat laborious) process of getting their space properly licensed for food service-- just another indication of the incredibly high standards and attention to detail we encountered thoughout our stay at Changing Tides B&B. ”

There aren't enough good things to say about Changing Tides B&B. My boyfriend and I stayed with Stephanie and Jay for a weekend in Rockport and they far from exceeded our expectations! The location is an easy 5 minute walk from downtown Rockport and a less than 10 minute walk from a small, private beach. Their B&B was quaint and we felt right at home for our entire stay. They provided fresh shower and beach towels daily and offered us beach chairs to use. Stephanie's home-cooked breakfasts and daily baked goods were spectacular, not to mention her amazing hospitality. Stephanie and Jay went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and truly provided a one-of-a-kind experience. I would recommend the Changing Tides B&B to anyone and we plan to visit again in the future!

“A beautiful base for exploring Rockport”
5 of 5 starsReviewed July

This B&B is virtually in the center of Rockport -- just a couple blocks up the hill, but still within a couple minutes walk of the shops and restaurants downtown as well as the spectacular views of the Headland. Our room was perfect -- comfortable bed, plenty of AC plugs for chargers, windows in three directions to catch the coastal breezes and make for comfortable sleeping. The breakfasts -- well, once you eat here, you'll be spoiled for all further breakfasts! Our bathroom was shared with occupants of the other room, but certainly no problem. A multi-outlet AC plug was provided, so all our chargers could be plugged in. Cookies/muffins appeared in our room. How great can it get?!?!! I can't say enough about what a wonderful stay it was for us at Changing Tides on this, our first visit to Rockport.

“We've stayed in many wonderful places in our travels, but Stephanie's B&B rises above just about all. The quality of the facilities, location, and atmosphere of welcome were truly extraordinary. And, Stephanie's breakfasts! Incredible. Still, perhaps most enjoyable of all was the opportunity to talk with Stephanie and her husband about all sorts of things, from placing fences to making raspberry jam to old houses; we got to know a couple of great people. And, for those who have never been to Rockport -- yes -- it's literally a 4 minute walk from the center and harbor.”

“Great location for walking around town”

We were in town one night for a party. We had visited Rockport before, so we weren't there to sight-see particularly, but this was a great location for walking. Easy walk to the Headlands and then into town along the harbor or farther out along the water. Stephanie and Jay were very helpful and not intrusive at all. Breakfast was wonderful - we ate in the very pleasant garden outside. Delightful! Bed was comfy, slept well, everything we needed was right there!

We met Stephanie and Jay and immediately knew we found the right B&B. They were great hosts. We got a tour of the house and when we asked a history of their home, built in 1855. All updates fit in well. Our room was large, beautiful and spotless. The bed was comfortable and when we commented Stephanie said it had a new mattress
A 5 minute walk to town and later for dinner at a great restaurant that Stephanie had booked for us. Later a fire pit outside warmed the evening air as we got to know them and another couple.Breakfast of blueberry pancakes and bacon completed our great experience

“Fourth of July Getaway in charming New England Beach Town”

My friend and I were looking for a last minute beach getaway and we are so glad this quaint B&B was available. Stephanie allowed us to check in a couple of hours early and everything was ready for us when we arrived. The location is perfect, just a couple of blocks to the center of town and about a ten minute walk to either of the two main beaches. Rockport is a charming beach town with great seafood restaurants, ice cream shops and beautiful beaches. I don't think you can buy wine, beer, etc to-go in town so plan accordingly:-)

The room is in front of house on 2nd floor. The accommodations were clean and roomy. We shared a bathroom with one other set of guests and Stephanie kept it clean throughout day.
Stephanie is a fantastic cook and we looked forward to breakfast every morning. My friend is gluten intolerant and Stephanie cooked some delicious gluten free crepes and pastries (in addition to regular breakfast for me and the other guests)-it was impressive!
Stephanie and Jay know Rockport and the surrounding towns in and out and were able to provide us with great recommendations for food, beaches, activities, etc.
We had a great 4th of July weekend in Rockport and would definitely recommend this B&B.

Stephanie and her husband Jay, both locals, were very kind and helpful, making us feel welcome in their home and excited to see Rockport. She makes delicious meals using only local or regional produce, most of it from her garden, backyard, or just in the area, everything homemade. Best of all was our host Stephanie, who is super generous, friendly, an amazing cook, each breakfast more delicious and inventive using local and home-made ingredients (I bought a delicious jam) and Stephanie shared interesting 'insider' information about Rockport and surrounding areas. “AMAZING HOSPITALITY!”

Stephanie and Jay are the perfect hosts and have really set such a high standard for the rest of our trip in New England. From our arrival, we received a very warm welcome, which continued throughout our stay. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters room which was clean, bright and beautifully furnished with good quality linen. The bed itself was extremely comfortable and we slept very well over the course of our two night stay. The bathroom is located immediately next door to the room, and again was kept immaculate throughout our stay. Attention to detail, first class. Towels, beautifully soft and well presented were changed throughout our stay. Stephanie has really thought through what her guests may require to make their stay as comfortable as possible, and these little touches make a difference. What sets Stephanie apart from any other bed and breakfast we have stayed at are her fabulous skills as a cook. On arrival, we were met with freshly baked cookies, and the following morning to come down to a sumptuous cooked breakfast, home made sausage patties, herb scrambled eggs and seasoned potatoes - out of this world!! with fresh fruit, croissants, home made jams and juices.....it really was a wow factor!! It really did set us up for the day and on our return from a long day walking and sight seeing, we came back to again to be met by warm freshly baked cookies. Stephanie and Jay have a beautiful and very comfortable home, and they are they are such lovely people and hosts. Moreover, the b&b is perfectly located for all the wonderful amenities and sights that Rockport has to offer. You will have a wonderful stay with Stephanie and Jay at Changing Tides, and would thoroughly recommend.

Cookies upon check-in, cookies in the afternoon, amazing breakfasts, and the accommodations were wonderful. I was free to "live" wherever I wanted. You couldn't ask for a better location either! I only used my car to drive to Halibut Point. I could walk to any place in town in just a few minutes.  Comfortable, Relaxing and Delicious!

My daughter and I just spent two nights at Changing Tides. First of all they have a room with twin beds which is usually hard to find at B & B's. The room was large and adorable. Stephanie, the host has an amazing touch with decor. I kept finding things that I wanted for my home. The accommodation comes with a sitting room right outside the bedroom and each afternoon Stephanie bakes cookies and leaves them in the sitting room for her guests to munch on when they return from shopping or the beach. And then there is breakfast.....Oh my....Stephanie is a wonderful cook. The first morning we had herb scrambled eggs, home fries, homemade bread with her homemade jellies and jams. There was also fruit, granola and yogurt. Because she knew my daughter is a vegetarian and I don't eat dairy, she adjusted her menu accordingly. We felt like we were at home at Changing Tides and I can't wait to visit again!

Stephanie and Jay were very welcoming on our arrival. We walked in the house just as Stephanie was finished chocolate chips cookies! They provided us with all the local information and provided us with with recommendations on where to eat and best places to view sunset. Changing Tides is within walking distance (about 5 minutes) to the wharfs, restaurants, and attractions. The room was great and exactly as described. Stephanie's breakfast was fantastic and all the food was handmade and/or came from her garden out back. They had the fire pit going in the yard and was a great place to relax and talk with them to finish off the night. Changing Tides B&B is a beautiful old home about 5 minutes walking distance of the harbor and the shops and restaurants along Bearskin Neck. It's also a short walk to one of the town beaches. The B&B was clean, the rooms spotless, the owners friendly, and the outdoor areas (patio, fire pit, gardens, etc.) beautiful and relaxing. Stephanie made us the best breakfast...stuffed blueberry pancakes, homemade granola with yogurt, maple bacon, fresh juice and hot coffee or tea. Looking forward to making this an annual weekend excursion.

 Fantastic

Clean, quiet, homey, and relaxing sum up Changing Tides. Fabulous breakfasts by Stephanie! Friendly atmosphere where you can be as private as you wish or as involved in the community as you want to be with the help of Jay and Stephanie. Convenient location in Rockport.  “THE PLACE TO STAY!”

Stephanie and Jay Smith are so warm and friendly that I felt like I had met them previously! The rooms were lovely, clean, spacious and very comfortable, Before arriving, Stephanie was very helpful with information, directions etc over the phone. We arrived to drop our bags off and she had banana bread waiting for us along with necessary information. The house is just lovely and cozy as well as the outdoor sitting areas. The breakfasts were delicious feasts, Stephanie is quite the cook! Stephanie and Jay are also lovely to chat with. We walked to the shopping which is very close. I must say this was the best B&B I have stayed in and will stay again. Thank you Stephanie and Jay for all of your hospitality!!

 "Stay here!!!”

We had a fabulous time here at Changing Tides. It was like a breath of fresh air during our New England trip. Stephanie and Jay welcomed us with warm arms. The food, the house, location and inside tips from the owners made our stay in Rockport so memorable. Wish we could have stayed for a week. We will be back!!

Stephanie and Jay made us (and our 10 month old) at home and would definitely stay with them again!

Our stay at Changing Tides was very relaxing & the perfect getaway for the weekend. It is in an ideal location, walking distance to the wharfs, minutes from the best spot to watch the sunset and yet in a residential setting with no tourist noise. Stephanie and Jay were warm & engaging, making us feel at home & able to guide us to whatever we interested in doing. The rooms are bright and beautifully decorated with comfy beds & fresh towels. Stephanie prepared amazing breakfasts and evening snacks for us, and there is a little refrigerator just outside our door that came in handy. The garden & outside pergola are also great spots to relax in the evening.

This was the perfect getaway. Our room, The Captain's Quarters, was so cozy but roomy at the same time. Everything so very clean inside of a beautiful home that is in the perfect location! The Smiths made us feel right at home. Best breakfast in Rockport!! My son and I can't wait to return.

"Their generosity and welcoming home was definitely the highlight of our 10 day trip to New England"

Staying in the Beachcomber room was a great choice. Hosts Stephanie and Jay were really nice and made us feel very welcome. Stephanie cooked wonderful breakfasts from scratch every day - really nice to wake up to. They both were helpful with places to see, things to do, and how to get to places. They also included myself and my friend in their July 4 celebration - watching the parade from in from of the B&B, mingling with guests and invited us to their B-B-Q. The room was lovely. Really comfortable and clean. The location of the B&B was perfect - could walk to town in 5 minutes, walk to a nearby beach, to see the barn fire on July 4, to restaurants, etc. It was a true delight staying there. The guests in the other room were also very nice, friendly people. It was overall a really good environment and atmosphere for a nice long weekend holiday.

We spent 2 nights at Stephanie and Jay's home. We really enjoyed the time. Stephanie and Jay are wonderful people, we were warmly welcomed and we felt like a bit the part of the family. We received many tips what to visit and what to do in Rockport. Stefanie prepared us delicious breakfasts once a traditional US breakfast menu with egg, toast, potatoes and on the other day we had super delicious home made raspberry marmalade and cream on tasty Belgian waffles + freshly squeezed fruit juices. The chocolate cookies served for the guest were also super delicious. Thank you Stefanie and Jay! We spent 2 nights at Stephanie and Jay's home. We really enjoyed the time.  Stephanie was there to greet us as we drove in and was very accommodating from the moment we arrived. We were only in Rockport for 1 night for a wedding and it happened to be only a few blocks away from Stephanie's house which was perfect! We got to Rockport in the afternoon on Saturday, got ready for the wedding for a few hours and then walked less than half a mile to the celebration. We were so thankful to find a place nearby and thrilled to find the room is even nicer than the pictures! It's extremely spacious and clean, on the second floor of the house with a bathroom right next door. The bathroom is clean and we appreciated the fresh towels Stephanie left for us to use. After the wedding, we woke up a little late for breakfast but were still able to enjoy the delicious Belgian waffles with homemade whipped cream and raspberries as well as maple bacon. It was exactly what we needed with coffee and fresh orange juice. I would absolutely recommend staying here if you're looking to spend some time in Rockport. My only regret is that we didn't come in on Friday to spend 2 nights instead of 1! We would definitely stay here again.

If you have ever dreamed of having your own storybook cottage in a fairy tale town, then Changing Tides B&B in Rockport is for you!

If you have ever dreamed of having your own storybook cottage in a fairy tale town, then Changing Tides B&B in Rockport is for you! Stephanie, the homeowner, is quite a Renaissance woman -- she is a multi-talented businesswoman, artist, and cook extraordinaire. Every detail in her home and gorgeous gardens reflects her artist's eye. Her home is cheerful, welcoming, and pristinely clean. She has thought of everything to make your stay stress-free. Crisp cotton linens on firm, comfortable beds, a basket of fluffy white towels, comfortable reading nooks. Coffee and tea were available all day. Breakfast was fabulous -- fresh fruit, delicious homemade granola, yogurt. She picks herbs from her garden to season her egg dishes. She grinds her own pork for homemade sausage (delicious) and even baked our chocolate croissants to flaky, light, perfection... oh, and she even serves her delicious food on gorgeous pottery that she made herself. Martha Stewart has some competition living in Rockport!! If the weather permits, you will love having your breakfast on the beautiful outdoor patio surrounded by crazy gorgeous flowers and a lovely trickling water feature. The hanging swings surrounding the fire pit area will lull you into a serene state of mind. Location is perfect. We parked our car in the driveway and walked everywhere -- beaches, hiking paths, shops and restaurants. So, what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and head to Changing Tides!

This was a very pleasant room, even nicer than in the picture...

“This was a very pleasant room, even nicer than in the picture. The shared bathroom was just along the corridor and was very clean. Stephanie and Jay made us very welcome in their home, even though we arrived quite late, and we were able to store some food in their refrigerator overnight. The room was quiet, the bed comfortable, with crisp sheets and attractive decoration. In the morning Stephanie made a great breakfast for us - spinach frittata, fresh fruit and croissants. Stephanie and Jay have a beautiful deck area in their garden where we were able to sit and enjoy a coffee before leaving in the morning. ”

We'll be back!

Stephanie and her husband, Jay, we're excellent hosts! Their home is beautiful, spacious, and ideally situated to the beach and downtown Rockport. Additionally, our room was well appointed and comfy. At night, Stephanie and Jay invited us to join them at their fire pit in their backyard. In the morning, Stephanie made a delicious multi-course breakfast. All around, a great experience. Thank you. We'll be back!

Stephanie is a force -- incredible energy and a range of talents...

Stephanie and Jay were very welcoming. They helped us find a restaurant, a place to hear live music, and trails to explore through Dogtown. They invited us for a glass of wine with them at their outdoor firepit on their beautiful patio. We have yet to meet warmer, more accommodating hosts. Stephanie is a force -- incredible energy and a range of talents. Homemade blueberry syrup for the blueberry pancakes, homemade granola, yummy fruit salad, and a wide selection of teas and coffees. The sheets are crisp cotton and the beds are comfortable. The room is spacious and clean and the bath offers lots of counter space to put your things on. Well-chosen Pandora music completes this delightful Rockport experience. The location is perfect, a short walk to downtown but far enough to feel out of the hubbub. Off-street parking is included, too. We had a wonderful time and hope we will be lucky enough to be able to stay with them the next time we visit Rockport.

You haven't lived until you've tried Stephanie's food.

Stephanie and her husband were incredibly warm and welcoming! My boyfriend and I were hoping for a quick getaway from Boston, and we 100% recommend staying here if you're looking to go to anywhere near Rockport. The room was perfect-- exactly as described in the listing, and it felt very private. The house itself is beautiful, with a fantastic yard and only minutes away by foot from the center of Rockport. The Smiths gave us recommendations for restaurants and the inside scoop on where to watch the sunset-- we could not be more grateful for their help!

Highly Recommended

We stayed in a charming home just steps away from Bearskin Neck; the center of this quaint former fishing village.  Jay and Stephanie are gracious hosts that make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive!

We stayed in a cheerful room with bath room located immediately adjacent to our room.  The room had a very comfortable bed and had space for all our belongings.

Meals were excellent and everything was made from scratch by Stephanie.  The kitchen is in the center of the home and there is always activity!  It is a large comfortable space where you can sit and have a drink and chat with the proprietors.  We found ourselves enjoying many a good time and belly laughs.  Meals were always plentiful and delicious; served family style in a casual atmosphere.

After dinner, we enjoyed a glass of wine and/or cocktails on the back patio.  If the temperature is cool, Jay will get a fire going in the fire pit that has swing chairs around it that just envelope you in a cozy, comfortable way.  Conversation is always fun and laughter is a consequence.

I highly recommend this if you are looking for a casual, friendly place to enjoy yourself and relax.  Fun is always on their menu as is exceptional service.

Thanks to the Smiths for a lovely stay.

The proprietors, Jay and Stephanie Smith, welcomed us at the front door.   They were both friendly and engaging and we felt right at home.   The rooms were bright, airy and quaint in keeping with the character of Rockport.   The beds were comfortable, making us feel more welcomed than a hotel.   Breakfasts were always different and wonderful served family style in the bright dining room.   Parking was off street as there was no need for the car as it was a 5 minute walk to "Downtown" Rockport.   There we found old churches, art studios, many different gift shops and a gorgeous view of the ocean all just on our walks.   The stay acted as our home base for day trips to Gloucester and Salem.   It felt like we were leaving old friends on our last day with Jay and Stephanie.   This will definitely be the place we stay when visiting Rockport again.

A GREAT place to stay!

Charming, relaxing, neat and clean….within walking distance to local Rockport shops and eateries.   Our hosts, Stephanie and Jay, were very accommodating with sleeping arrangements, excellent food and conversation One of my favorite parts was  relaxing outside with another couple having afternoon drinks..  A must stay…you will not be disappointed!
